A Refutation for Those Who Claim That the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) Has Knowledge of the Unseen:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

السلام علیکم ورحمۃ اللہ وبرکاتہ

"Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you."

Some individuals assert that the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) had full knowledge of the unseen (ʿIlm al-Ghayb). However, the authentic position of the classical Hanafi scholars clearly refutes this belief. The following statements from major Hanafi authorities demonstrate that knowledge of the unseen is exclusively for Allah Almighty:

1. Imam al-Quduri al-Hanafi (may Allah have mercy on him, d. 428 AH) said:

"We say that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was not informed of the unseen."
(Source: At-Tajrid, 6/3009)

2.Imam al-Sarakhsi al-Hanafi (may Allah have mercy on him, d. 483 AH) said:

"This is the unseen, and no one knows the unseen except Allah."
(Source: Al-Mabsut, 16/64)

3. Imam Ibn Mazah al-Hanafi (may Allah have mercy on him, d. 616 AH) said:

"It is not valid for a person to perform a marriage by making Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) as witnesses, because no actual witnesses are present."

"Al-Muḥīṭ al-Burhānī in the Nu‘mānī Jurisprudence, Volume 29, Page 3."

4.Imam Qasim as-Saffar (may Allah have mercy on him) further added:

"Whoever does this should be declared a disbeliever, because such an act implies belief that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has knowledge of the unseen."
"Al-Muḥīṭ al-Burhānī in the Nu‘mānī Jurisprudence, Volume 29, Page 3."
(Source: Al-Muḥīṭ al-Burhānī, 3/29)

5. Imam Mahmud Alusi al-Hanafi (may Allah have mercy on him, d. 1270 AH) stated:

"In any case, complete or partial knowledge of the unseen without any intermediary is exclusive to Allah. No created being knows the unseen."
(Source: Ruh al-Maʿani, 10/23)

Conclusion

Conclusion

These are clear and authoritative statements from great Hanafi scholars of the past, proving that knowledge of the unseen is the sole attribute of Allah Almighty. To ascribe such a quality to anyone else—even to the most beloved Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)—is a serious theological error and contradicts the belief of Ahl al-Sunnah wa’l-Jamaʿah.

May Allah guide us all to the truth, grant us the ability to accept it, and keep us firm upon the correct creed. Ameen.
